Michael Stephenson took a degree in English from Cambridge University . Qualifying originally as a teacher, he taught in comprehensive schools for 5 years before re-qualifying as a solicitor. Following admission as a solicitor , he has practised in Felixstowe since 1982, forming his own firm in 1988 and entering partnership with Mark Fairweather to form Fairweather Stephenson & Co in 1995.

His principal area of practice is criminal law and he serves as a duty solicitor in local police stations and courts. He covers the full range of criminal cases from minor motoring charges to the more serious allegations which require Crown Court trial. He also advises in employment and private matters and participates in the legal advice clinic at Felixstowe CAB.

Personal interests include travel, reading, theatre and mountain walking.
